Marcy Neiditz is a ceramic artist who makes both decorative functional vessels and sculptural objects. She is inspired by science, nature, biology, the microscopic world, and alien life-forms, as well as the art of indigenous cultures and mid-century modern design. Ideas such as biological plant-like forms coming alive, growing and aging occupy her imagination.
Her current work combines simple forms with surfaces that have abstract narrative line drawings, texture, pattern, and repetitive design elements. The abstract characters, drawn on the forms, come from her quirky imagination, and the story is left to the viewer's imagination. The tops to her lidded containers and teapots pay homage to her organic sculptures. Her work is wheel-thrown and hand-built. The process includes a layering of glazes, slips and underglazes, with hand-painted and incised sgraffito surfaces. The pieces are fired to cone5/6 in an electric kiln.
Marcy’s love for creating in clay began in the early 1980’s as a hobby, became a full-time career 20 years later, and continues on after 40 + years.
